I was surprised when I received the thin booklet with a, what looked like type or computer written, story "My Father, the Cat" and a number of blank pages. For the price, I expected the complete small pocket book with the same title but containing a number of short stories, including "My Father, the Cat." It was quite disappointing. I have obtained the complete book since then from a different source and enjoyed Henry Slesar's writing very much. I would not recommend buying the version I purchased unless you wish to receive only the one story. The one star is not for the product but for the writer.Product details

A rather shockingly sad read! A young man recounts the love of his frail mother and his odd father...who happens to be a cat. When the man decides to bring his fiance home to meet his father, he must find some way to both convince her to still love him, despite his odd parentage, and to have his father agree to the unveiling in the first place!
This feels like a little sequel to "Puss in Boots," with one of the sadder morals in fairy tales sometimes, even those we love best can not accept the truth.
This story is in the public domain. I listened to the free audio production from Librivox's 20th science fiction collection.
